In the past few days I have been struggling with my first timing belt. It also seems that my car needs an engine rebuild so this is going to take a while longer than I hypothesized. So I ordered the parts and I should be getting them today. I suppose my biggest lesson in the past few days is make sure you do it right the first time, and of course how to put on a timing belt. Also the more work the more I learn all the tiny little tricks and tool. I am also having the opportunity to learn how to use different types of pullers. A big draw back to any of my project is that I spend more time looking for tools than I do working but I have been slowly cleaning up the shop. I defiantly have a big appreciation for organization, efficiency and safety, and all of these things go hand in hand.

Today I dove, head first into the caterpillar engine (the final project) and I have several pictures but sadly my IPod has died so I can’t post any of my pictures until tomorrow. I also have almost reassembled the engine I helped disassemble and measure the specs of with my team. I also have several of those pictures. I have not disassembled an engine before so a lot of these things are a first to me and I have learned so much. I learned how to use a valve spring compressor. I also learned how to use a cylinder liner puller. Also this week I brushed up on my (non-digital) micrometer ability. I also have to admit I had no idea what axial flywheel run-off was or how to measure the bore using a dial indicator but now I do. Also this weekend I started replacing my clutch, fluids, belts (including the timing) filters, spark plugs and wires and distributor cap and rotor, CV axles and wheel bearings, I should be done today. I would also like to note that I have completed both the engine research assignment and the engine specification measurements sheet for our engine I am just unable to post them because as I said, my IPod is dead. This week we took apart a John deer engine that had a hole in the side of it .we followed the clues to the failure as a class. Everyone thought that it was a failed connecting rod but it turned out to be the counter weight came loose and destroyed the balancing shaft and when that broke it shot through and poke a nice big hole in the cast. We also choose a group engine to disassemble. And after that I will start to disassemble a cat 3516 engine by myself. Time last week: 35 Time this week: 30 Time total: 162
