This week I learned how to take apart and replace U bolts. I took everything inside the wheel well apart and put it back together. I am proud. I have successfully skinned every knuckle on my right hand. This folks, takes great skill. I also learned how to diagnose a bad U joint. I change the oil on my first diesel truck, it took 27 quarts and a different sort of filter it looked something like this.

Sorry this one is a bit late but I have been very distracted. The stress of school and a job is kicking my butt.

I suppose this week I learned (the hard way) how to structure and prioritize my time for optimum efficiency. I have been doing the same tasks in my internship; washing, sweeping, cleaning, organizing, inspections and oil changes. I learned how to pump oil from an oil collector? I learned washing a school bus is extremely difficult, and I learned how to use ever lift in the shop.

This week I was able to find a shop to work in. Its not a big one and its not dominantly diesel but I feel it will help me learn the basic mechanics skills I am lacking in. There is no better way to learn. Today I learned how to replace a starter and solenoid in an older Ford pick up.  I also did an LOF on the Ford before I help diagnose and fix the problem. Then I did a pressure test on the coolant system in a van and found the leakage point which was the plug right behind the starter, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

I also started working on the motor cycle that my grandfather used to drive me to elementary school in when I was a tike. It hasn't been driven in eight years. It needs; all moving parts lubricated, a clean carberator, the break light connected to the back break needs attention and quite a few screw are in dire need of replacement. I look forward to my inexpensive transport and for the summer breeze.
